does sunscreen absolutely prevent skin cancer?

no

Some health experts suspect that skin cancer rates are increasing because sunscreens provide a false sense of security. The American Academy of Dermatology now says sunscreens are only one component of sun protection.

THAT SHOULD BE USEFUL!

The right sunscreen (ask your doctor or dermatologist) can do a lot to lower the risk of skin cancer. We don't know why some people get skin cancer and others don't, even though they may get the same amount of UV radiation that causes skin cancer.

You want to be extra cautious because skin cancer, especially among young women, is on the rise. That is because many have longer and more frequent exposure.

Your health is too important to trust to a site like yahoo answers, because you don't know if those who give answers have medical training or not. So ask your doctor and be sensible when it comes to tanning.

well im not perfectly sure but it gose somthing like this: when the skin recieves the waves its obsorbed into the body a little the cells sorta heat up and are dammaged by the rays... sorta like a microwave but backwords... then fluids are needed to rehydrate the cells so blisters form and somehow theres the cancer cells in the healing prossess. and sunscreen has something in it that reflects the rays and covers your skin so they cant enter. your suppose to apply the screen like 1/2 an hour before going into the sun and keep reappling because it rubbs off, wears off and gets washed off.
