How fast can skin cancer spread? |
I found a spot on my leg over a month ago. I went in 2 weeks ago to get it checked and the dr told me he figured it was just a bruise but if it didn't get better in 2 weeks time to go back in right away and get a biopsy done to figure out what it was. Guess what? It's still there and is only getting darker in color and now itches like crazy. It's 1 1/2 cm x 2 1/2 cm in diameter and was red at first now turning brown. What are the chances it is skin cancer? I am a survivor of stage III melanoma; I was first diagnosed at age 21. I had a mole on my neck that itched. My general practitioner assured me it was nothing. My mother is an RN and insisted I see a dermatologist. That dermatologist saved my life. Once melanoma begins to metastasize, you are in trouble. It spreads quickly and efficiently, and there are currently no good therapies for metastatic melanoma. |
