I'm freaking out - skin cancer? |
A few days ago I found a small, scaly patch on my lower belly but didn't really worry about it. Then today I found another one on the backside of my arm, and upon a full body inspection I found one more (a tiny one) on my side. They don't itch or bother me really at all. I am certainly not a doctor, however it is worth having a doctor take a look at it. I am in no situation to give you a medical decision if it's cancerous. Just don't panic and get in to see a doctor. The earlier the better just in case. I wish you well. I work at a derm office, (but not an MD or nurse). However, I have seen lots of pictures of cancerous lesions and this does not look like one of them. You can go on google and put in 'ABCDE's of melanoma' for pictures and more specifics on what cancerous lesions look like and behave like. However, I would still consider consulting a dermatologist about the lesions. It is always more assurring to have a professional look at them, as it is the only way you will REALLY know what they are and what you should do about them. There are other skin lesions, such as actinic keratosis, that may be benign right now, but may have the potential to turn into a malignant lesion later...many people get these. So, I would not panic, but definitely have a dermatologist check them out. When you make an appointment, let them know you want a 'full body examination' (you don't have to submit to a groin exam if you don't want), and they will check your body for any suspicious lesions. |
