How could a person suffer from skin cancer?

I live in a tropical pacific island, what are the possibilty of a person to suffer from skin cancer?

You can get skin cancer rather easily from over-exposure to the sun(more than an hour) and depending on what time of day you are out, UV rays can be especially harmful. You are more susceptible to skin cancer if people in your family have had it. So be sure to ask family members (grandparents, etc.)
You can google images of melanoma(skin cancer) just so you know what to look for.

If you keep tanning on a low and use a lot of sun-screen you should be fine.

Just don't soak up the sun too much. Besides, some cultures that have been living in tropic areas have been immune to those diseases from evolution.

Yea. If you get a lot of sunburns then ur chances for skin cancer are heightened. You would have to go through surgery but skin cancer usually isn't fatal

google it.
You'll come up with a lot of things

Be careful with the sun & tanning... wear sunscreen

Very real if you don't use sun protection.

If you get skin cancer, your cells will work against you and preform backwards. It can take over your body and possibly kill you.

Well, everytime you are exposed to UVA and UVB (sunlight) rays, your chances of getting skin cancer increases. Wear SPF 30 when going outside of extended periods, stay in the shade when possible, and keep an eye out for any mysterious looking, deformed, moles that you might come across. They could be a sign of something that isn't just right. You cannot assume that just because you live in a tropical pacific island in the sun all the time that you will be safe from skin cancer, because skin cancer knows no race, gender, or nationalily.
Hope I've Helped! Remember to lather up!

The heat of the sun may contain ultra-violet that can go through ozone layer then burn your skin and cause the cancer!

Pretty good if your out on the beach everyday and your not applying sunscreen.

The lighter your skin tone is, the bigger the chance it is for you to get skin cancer. You need to use a sunblock any time you leave the house. Even when it is sunny outside ultra violet rays are still hitting your skin.... ABSOLUTELY NO TANNING BEDS!!!

Someone who lives in a tropical region is definitely susceptible to skin cancer--sun exposure is very high. But there are ways to prevent high exposures to UV rays, which include the basics: "sunscreen, shade, hat, sunglasses, clothing protection..etc."
From a site on climates: "Tropical regions experience the least variation in day length between the seasons. Their position near to the centre of the sun's exposure on Earth, means that day length here is never far from average."

Basically, the tropics are at the point where the sun's rays hit most directly--the tropic lines correspond to the exact tilt of Earth in its orbit around the Sun.

According to WebMD:
"Anyone can get skin cancer, but it is more common in people who:

Spend a lot of time in the sun or have been sunburned
Have light-colored skin, hair and eyes
Have a family member with skin cancer
Are over age 50"

"You should have your doctor check any suspicious skin markings and any changes in the way your skin looks. Treatment is more likely to work well when cancer is found early. If not treated, some types of skin cancer cells can spread to other tissues and organs."

Hope all turns out well!
Pura Vida!
