Skin cancer? Please answer if you know the facts.?

Hi, I was wondering what does skin cancer look like and what are the symptoms ?

Skin cancer is divided into two groups: non melanoma and melanoma. The type of skin cancer symptoms discussed here are those of non melanoma skin cancer. Non melanomas are generally more common and less danger than melanoma. In fact over 1,000,000 people will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year.
Symptoms of Skin Cancer

* A small lump (spot or mole) that is shiny, waxy, pale in color, and smooth in texture.
* A red lump (spot or mole) that is firm
* A sore or spot that bleeds or become crusty. Also look for sores that don't heal.
* Rough and scaly patches on the skin.
* Flat scaly areas of the skin that are red or brown.
* Any new growth that is suspicious

Skin cancer has hundreds of appearances but most commonly is either a sore that does not heal or a mole that exhibits an unusual appearance. That is the simplistic answer to a complex question. You will probably not be able to identify a skin cancer by comparing internet photos with a lesion on your own body. The reason is that often the internet photos are of a much more advanced or obvious skin cancer than they are of the much more typical early skin cancer that hopefully brings you to the dermatologist for a quick evaluation and prompt treatment.
