Likelyness of skin cancer..?

What the likelyness of getting it if I follow this plan.

Go on a tanningbed for 4 minutes every four days for 4 weeks then go on about 5 minutes every 2 weeks to keep it topped up but keep getting it less and less. (until the summer weather gets here)?

By the way im 16 and my friend is 17

I know that fair haired people or red haired people are likely to be more at risk than dark haired and also people with fair skin or who have previously suffered sunburn. Saying that, there is no certainty. Anyone can get skin cancer so think carefully first. Please have a look at skin cancer info on websites etc. Maybe you could use tanning lotion even and than when the summer arrives, sit out in it wearing sun cream? But whatever choice you make, please be careful xx

I'm worried about the same thing too. I don't go to tanning salons. Instead I use sunless tanning lotion, but try not to go to the tanning salon anymore.

Skin cancer can be caught being out in the sun with no hat on for protection, so whatever you do to try and protect yourself, can always leave you vulnerable in other ways - just make sure you follow guidelines and check yourself over regularly for any changes to moles or anything odd on your skin

It sounds like you are doing the minimum, so that's good. Tanning beds are not great for anyone, for the future of your skin...over exposure to tanning beds and sun will lead to wrinkles and other problems. I don't think you will have a problem if you don't over do it, but take into consideration if there is any family history of skin cancer in your family.

(The word is likelihood.) There is no way an absolute statistical chance can be given to an individual. All that I can say is that there is no 'safe' level of any type of radiation, including UV. The more you are exposed to it the higher the risk. Generally doctors advise against the use of tanning lamps all together. Not only do they increase skin cancer risk, but they increase the rate of ageing of the skin. Chronic users tend to end up looking a bit like prunes as the years go by. This is surely not something you want to do, even if it will be some time in the future, it seems a high price to pay for a bit of a tan when you could if you must use artificial tan anyway.
