Skin cancer on the face...?

MY dad has got multitple sunburns & he went into the skin doctors office and told him that his red blotches on his skin could lead to skin cancer.

His face is ALWAYS red & he also has darker red spots & a little bit of light brown spots...i don't think they're freckles because they're big like quarter of an inch in diameter.

The doctor told him about the treatment and told him how painful it was with all this acid & he doesn't want to do it.

Does it sound like he has early skin cancer?

tell your dad to go to a skin cancer clinic and get them examined properly. there are 3 different types of skin cancer:
Basal cell carcinoma (not serious), Squamous cell carcinoma (moderatly serious) and Melanoma (can be extremely serious)

melanomas are usually asymetric, have irregular boarders, are multicolored (black, brown, red and blue) and are over 6mm in diamter.

if it is found that it is skin cancer, your father really does need to get them removed, they can become very dangerous if they are melanoma, the pain would be worth it

I agree with Bec above that there are 3 basic skin cancer types....How ever you said in you ? that they wanted to use "acid" and they will NEVER remove a Melanoma that way... They MUST do a complete wide excision on a MM in order to be sure it is all out...SO with that said I don't believe he has a MM...not to mention the Dr would be more forceful about getting it treated... In my experience it sounds like he May have a touch of rosacea (the redness) and the 1/4" brown things are probably SK's (seborrehic Keratoses) Benign growths---more of an eye sore than anything and the other ruff small spots are Actinic Keratosis ("pre-cancers" as most often described)...the SK depending on size can either be frozen off or shaved off...the AK's should be frozen off yes it does hurt a little bit but not nearly as much as if they grow in to Basal cells and have to be excised...If your Dad goes to a Dermatologist office they will use a cryo can which has pin point accuracy on the AKs therefor reducing the irritation. Tell him to take an Advil and he will be just fine....BUT
HE SHOULD GET THEM TREATED...
