Will you get skin cancer from tanning once? |
I went tanning for the first time today. Please don't tell me not to do it, because i already DID. I bought a 136 unit package. Which means they deduct 1 point for every minute I use on a low UV tanning bed or 1.5 points for the strong beds. If I go every other day for a week, will that cause cancer? I plan on using my extra minutes slower after the first week....again, please DONT tell me not to go tanning because i already BOUGHT the package... Honey...Even if you don't go to the tanning bed you can get skin cancer..My advise though is use a great tanning lotion with a good bronzer in it. Which means you can go tanning less often and get and stay dark faster and it lasts longer. I personally don't believe in tanning and I happen to be the whitest person you'll probably ever meet. ^_^ Now I'm not going to try to tell you not to tan I'll just give you the facts, tanning is terribly bad for you, the UV rays that are emitted are far more dangerous than the ones from the sun which are bad enough as it is. Going tanning once probably won't have much effect but after going a few times they will start to add up and you'll chance for skin cancer will increase greatly. When you get older your skin will likely be rough and wrinkled from the over exposure and covered in birthmarks and freckles. If you're worried about skin cancer why not try tanning lotions or spray on tans. If used correctly I've seen some great results on my friends. Tanning is up to you and as long as you've done the research and you know what the possible outcomes could be then go ahead and do it but think about it this way, would you rather be tan now but with rough skin and the heightened possibility of skin cancer later or pale skin now with nice skin later? I'm no expert in the tannjing bed field as a tan in Scotland stands out like a sore thumb! It is completely possible that tanning will cause you to get skin cancer. With that said though, plenty of people get skin cancer from being in the sunlight too. I would definitely second guess using a tanning bed as often as you are planning. I have a friend who is 25 and would go once a week regularly and she just had several parts of her skin cut off to test it for cancer. Just something to think about. If you were worried about skin cancer, why in the world would you buy such a large package? Also, sunlight is free in most places. Also, exposing yourself to harmful UV rays is dangerous always. While we do need the sunlight to get our share of Vitamin K and prevent conditions such as rickets, unless you live in a cave most people don't have a problem with a lack of sunlight. However, every other day for a week is quite excessive. Why in the world are you trying to get that tan? dude i got a tan too! today there were free tans at this one place and we got a tan! It was all of us' first time. It was weird. I didn't really need to get tan though cuz i'm mexican but it was an interesting experience. You wont get cancer from tanning once. It also depends on your family history. But if you tan once in a while, it's not so bad. NO. Skin cancer is an accumulative disease. After you have established a base tan you should avoid any unnecessary exposure to UV rays- natural and artificial. Joel J are you being a racist? No, tanning once will NOT get you skin cancer, just don't tan too often though. May maximum 1 every 7 months. Sun burn, not sun tan, increases your chance of cancer. Yes, you can get skin cancer from any type and length of exposure. Even once. yes definently.. yes. white people........... |
