Okay the people who answered this question so far have no idea what they are talking about.

Most skin cancers (squamous and adenocarcinoma) are slow growing cancers that can be frozen or cut out without much risk to the person. Melanoma, on the other hand, is extremely fast growing and quickly spreads throughout the body - it has a very high mortality and is why skin cancer is increasing as a cause of death (more people tanning now etc...)

You need to look up the various TYPES of skin cancer, specifically looking at the difference between the slow growing more benign types VERSUS melanoma which is fast growing and very lethal.

Skin cancer has one of the highest survival rates of any type of cancer. It is a very slow-spreading form of the disease, and can easily be treated before it spreads to other organs. Melanoma is the most lethal form of skin cancer, but even this disease is very treatable and has an excellent prognosis if caught in the early stages.

people who develop skin cancer actually have some of the best survival rates among other cancer patients. a lot of times if caught early enough, the mole would just be cut off, and that would be that. however, if it spreads far enough, it could potentially be lethal. but the best person to ask about this would be the doctor that diagnosed the person.

Rosetta has it correct. Fortunately only 2% of skin cancer is melanoma.

Skin cancer rarely leads to death
