Skin Cancer at age 13?

All I have is some sunburn on my shoulders from being outside swimming between the hours of 1 and 5 PM, and I was wondering under what circumstances can a 13 year old get skin cancer? And what warnings to look out for, and how to prevent it in the future. No I do not have skin cancer, just sun burn. If this helps I do not have a large history of getting sunburn, usually I dont get sunburn, and when I do it is usually on my shoulders or face, but its been a while since the last time I got sunburn.

I am a lot older than 13. I am fair skinned, fair haired and when I was younger through neglecting proper precautions, I would get horribly burned and it resulted in skin discolorations and many facial and body freckles. As I grew older I wasn't much more careful and I loved swimming in the sea.and would continue getting burned. Eventually years later I developed a lesion or a horrible large scaly spot on my shoulder near my neck and that frightened me. It fitted all the descriptions of being cancerous. I kept massaging it in the hope it would just go away and amazingly it did over time. Now I'm much more cautious and always use sunscreen and consider myself very, very lucky. So take care and you will not have the same scares.

i'm 13 too and i asked my dad this same question. he said that what causes skin cancer is the build up of sunburns overtime from when u were a kid so u most likely won't get it unless ur an older adult. u should be fine. just be careful. :)
