Why do skin cancer doctors advise only 15 SPF sun-block ? If it is just as effective as 60 SPF why -?

would you need a stronger sun-block ?

because in sunblocks with a higher spf there are more chemicals and toxins that really do more damage than good

There's a good link about what SPF is all about below, but basically, the higher the SPF the longer you can stay out in the sun.

I'd never heard that skin cancer doctors advise only 15 SPF sun-block. The do advise avoiding unnecessary exposure by wearing a hat, sunglasses and application of sunscreen before you go out and frequent re-application of sunscreen when outdoors.

i've read that SPF 15 provides something like 95% or 96% protection (the numbers may not be right but not too far--i don't remember), and the higher SPFs provides something like 97% or 98% or 99% (again I forgot the precise figures), so 15 will do most of it.

Some people have varying sensitivities towards UVA and UVB rays. Also, higher degrees typically last longer in my personal experience.

Because spf 15 does an adequate job for the money. You don't get that much more protection from higher spf numbers. The sunblock companies offer others because they are in the business of selling - not medicine.
