Dog has cancer coming through skin?

Someone I know has a little dog who has cancer. The cancer is showing through on the poor animal's skin by a hanging pouch under her belly and she says she can't stand the thought of putting the animal to sleep. I think it's cruel. When I see the dog she acts OK, but could the poor thing be in pain? She runs around the house and still barks at strangers but I can tell she is not as peppy as she used to be.

Well, Petra, this is not my pet. The woman doesn't want to take the dog to a vet. She's self-involved and talking to her doesn't do any good.

Others: Thanks for the info. It just pains ME to look at the dog.

If the dog is not showing signs of being in pain, then it's fine. My german shepherd had cancer, and had multiple tumors on her stomach. We watched her very closely for any signs of pain -she was happy, and perfectly fine, until the last two days of her life. The day before we put her down, one of her legs swelled up, and she had a limp (what I now recognize as evidence of heart failure) we watched, her, and the next morning she couldn't walk, and we knew it was time.

You're friend's dog is fine, don't worry about it. Just be there for her when it's time for the dog to really go.

Is there any chance this person can take the dog to the vet, to see if the cancer is operable, or even if the tumor is benign and can be removed?

She could be in pain, or might not. Either way the dog should be seen by a vet.

I can't believe the questions that are posted on this site. Do any of you people have a vet for your animals??? Do any of you have common sense? Doesn't seem like it. If you can't afford to take your animals to a vet, don't own a pet!
