I was told that I have skin cancer..?

I went to Warped Tour in Maryland Heights, Missouri on July 1st and they were giving free skin cancer screenings. My brother and I decided to take one and the guy who screened me told me that I had a little bit of skin cancer, like 3.75 or something, and that I needed to get it checked out by a dermatologist. I told my dad what he had said and my dad doesn't believe it. So, I have to either get it checked out or just leave it be.

Do you think that screening they did is accurate?

I would say so...It is fairly easy to diagnose as sometimes (in medium to severe cases) it is even clearly visable to the naked eye...

and contracting skin cancer is by no means difficult...spending alot of time out in the sun or having been sunburnt alot in the past, going to tanning bed especially, that can do it easily...

I would trust the screener and just go to the dermatologist...be proactive!!!

The beginnings of skin cancer can start as early as childhood and your first sunburn...

Better safe than sorry.
The dermatolog will send you to a plastic surgeon that will remove the suspected cancer and send it for further analysis. The surgery is minute, under local anesthesia, and rarely leaves a big scar.
There are NO effective treatments against advanced skin cancer! Therefore, after the removal, probably there would be no further treatment.
Consider yourself lucky that you were smart enough to take that skin screening.
Even if eventually it will be a false alarm, at most they removed an ugly mole from your skin.

It's hard to say. You might have the beginnings of skin cancer but the only way to tell for sure is to go see your dermatologist. Cancer is nothing to mess around with. Getting checked out by a dermatologist will at least give you a piece of mind. Tell your dad that you want to get tested again because everyone should get in the habbit of going for a testing every few years. This is probabley nothing to worry about, but why sit around worrying that it might be cancer? Do yourself a favor and get tested my a preofessional.
