A question on sun safety and skin cancer?

When I was young--being as pale as I am--I got sunburned nearly every summer, and some where pretty severe (resulting in water blisters, and peeling skin.) Now that I am older I try and avoid the sun, only going out when necessary. But sometimes I'll set on my parent's back porch for an hour or two. The porch is shaded with a roof and everything. Is this safe, because I'm usually not wearing sunblock when setting in the shade on the porch? Thanks for answering.

I also will walk over to my parents house nearly everyday. This is less than a ten minute walk, and the road is very shady with the overgrown trees. Also about once or twice a week I'll go to town for shopping, that's perhaps an hour in the vehicle and maybe altogether ten to fifteen minutes being outside of the stores and car.

sitting in the shade isn't bad nor is walking to your parents,
but just to keep on the safe side i would go to the doctors and make sure you don't have skin cancer
anyway you will be safe on the porch=)

Yes, you need to wear daily protection all year round, even in winter - and a high factor during the summer - you can burn in the shade on a porch..

You are a high risk candidate for skin cancer - you only have to burn badly once to greatly increase your risk of skin cancer. You need to keep an eye out for any moles which change colour, texture, or grow, itch or bleed. Sorry if I sound dramatic but this is fact. You can enjoy the sun but stay safe

You shouldn't have to worry about skin cancer. That won't effect you until you're in your 60's. My algerbra teacher has skin cancer and shes 60 years old. She told us that when she was little she always used to play out in the sun and never use sunblock. She never got sunburns, but look at her now. Y ou have to be careful. Hope i helped. =)

yes even going out in the sun for 10 minutes is damaging, try putting on a moisturiser which has sunscreen in it every morning
