My grans has skin cancer will she be okay !!!!!!?

help worrid !!

My Gram had melanoma on her face. They removed part of her cheek and took skin from her collarbone and replaced the cheek area that they removed. She did very well. She is tough as nails and refused any pain med after the surgery. Said that working took her mind off things and made lunch for the guys working in her fields. She turned 94 today.

Most of the time skin cancer is fairly easy to treat. My mom had it on her face and they just gave her a cream (chemotherapy cream she called it) and she had to put that on for like 6 weeks. Unfortunately it made her face really red and yucky looking like puffy and gross in spots. But a week after the treatment was over she started to return to normal. On the plus side, she now has great skin and no wrinkles. Her skin feels like a baby butt!

Unless it has metastisized into the body - and this happens when it's not caught early enough - she will be just fine and the treatment should be easy. If it goes into the skin it spreads kind of like a spider web and then they have to remove it surgically and it's a little bit harder to treat, but she will be fine.

The only time people die of skin cancer is if it's left for years and years and goes into the brain or some other vital organ. This rarely happens as it looks like a huge gross blob on the skin and people have it checked before it gets that bad.

Good luck. My thoughts are with you.

It depends on the type. Basal cell carcinoma is the easiest to treat. It is the slowest growing and rarely spreads to other parts of the body. It is the most treatable kind. Melanoma is dangerous because it can spread to other parts of the body.
