Skin cancer? if someone get's it how do they know they have it? |
I've had breast cancer, had a masectomy, so if i got skin cancer what would happen? surely i can't have my skin removed. Skin cancer is just like other forms of cancer. It usually starts from one spot, and then spreads. If you detect skin cancer early, the cancerous part can be surgically removed to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body. actually you CAN have your skin removed.... of course it wouldn't be ALL of your skin. but most skin cancer looks like an abnormality on your skin (like a mole or discoloration). the dermatologist would remove a potentially dangerous mole, perform a biopsy on it, and see if they removed the problem. if you have an strange looking spot on your skin, have your doctor take a look at them... don't put it off! I just had 3 spots of Melanoma removed. Yes, they remove the skin. One was on my back and they just stitched it up . My other one was on my forehead and it was as big as a quarter. I went to a plastic surgeon and he pulled the skin together and stitched it. It is very tight now. If the spot is too big they'll do a skin graph by removing a piece of skin from another part of your body (like your hip). I go to a dermatologist every 6 months for a body scan. None of my spots looked anything like what I saw on the Internet. The easiest answer is to look for anything on your skin that changes. I had basal cell carcinoma removed from my face. It didn't look like a mole, was pink and shiny kind of like a scar but it was getting bigger. They performed a MOHS procedure. Shaved off a circle of skin around it and tested it to make sure they got all the cancer. I joked with my friends that they took a melon baller to my face, but that's about what they make sure they got deep enough to get the "roots". I had a skin graft done--they took some skin from behind my ear. I've had breast cancer and a mastectomy too. I just recently had to "suspicious looking" moles removed. They turned out not to be cancerous but I make sure I get a full body check every year, especially after the breast cancer diagnosis. yea u can...i had a mole that they had to cut off and they tested it and found that is was skin cancer...and they can tell by the outline or somthing how far its spread!...if you get it bad...they will cut a hole outta you ...and cut skin off your buttox or arm to replace the skin cancer spot! I believe they usually develop as moles etc or on the skin I think they would remove them but there's always difference cases. Most skin cancer is visable and can be detcted early |
