I have a skin cancer question?

if anyone has ever had scc will you tell me the symtoms that you had? I believe i may have it but not for sure.

I've had numerous SCC removed. They can have numerous appearances but the two most common appearances are a small red sore that does not heal within 30 days or a raised red lump that looks like a reddish callus but located where nothing is rubbing that would cause a callus. It also slowly keeps getting larger. Might hurt or might not. The version that looks like a small sore almost always hurt. SCC are often located along the edge of the ear (dangerous location), top of head, top of shoulders, forearms, lower legs, etc.
SCC can usually be easily cured with simple excision if they take off enough flesh so that all edges of the cancer are removed. Pay attention to (and get copy of) the biopsy report so that you can read the pathologist's opinion as to whether you need a second excision to make sure they got it all. If they tell you they need to take more skin, just do it and do not worry as this is a common occurrence with SCC.

Once you have one skin cancer you have a 70+% chance of having another one within five years so wear a good UVA/UVB sunscreen, wide brimmed hat when outside and UVA protective clothes or long sleeves if your derm says that your skin is already damaged.

If you have lots of small SCC or precancers you should ask your Dr about using the prescription drug Aldara so that you do not have to have some many places cut off.
good luck

You can click the link for pix and symptoms of the 3 main types, and other less common types, of skin cancer. Melanoma can be quickly fatal if left unchecked. You need to see your doctor ASAP if you suspect skin cancer. I know several people who have had it--- some waited too long.

Basal cell carcinoma
This is the most common skin cancer. It's also the most easily treated and the least likely to spread. Basal cell carcinoma usually appears as one of the following:

A pearly or waxy bump on your face, ears or neck
A flat, flesh-colored or brown scar-like lesion on your chest or back
Squamous cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is easily treated if detected early, but it's slightly more apt to spread than is basal cell carcinoma. Most often, squamous cell carcinoma appears as one of the following:

A firm, red nodule on your face, lips, ears, neck, hands or arms
A flat lesion with a scaly, crusted surface on your face, ears, neck, hands or arms
Melanoma
This is the most serious form of skin cancer and the one responsible for most skin cancer deaths. Melanoma can develop anywhere on your body, in otherwise normal skin or in an existing mole that turns malignant. Melanoma most often appears on the trunk, head or neck of affected men. In women, this type of cancer most often develops on the arms or legs.

Warning signs of melanoma include:

A large brownish spot with darker speckles located anywhere on your body
A simple mole located anywhere on your body that changes in color, size or feel or that bleeds
A small lesion with an irregular border and red, white, blue or blue-black spots on your trunk or limbs
Shiny, firm, dome-shaped bumps located anywhere on your body
Dark lesions on your palms, soles, fingertips and toes, or on mucous membranes lining your mouth, nose, vagina and anus
