Can a 14 year old get skin cancer?

Im only 14 and I have a brown spot on my vagina. I thought it might be a birth mark beacuse its somewhere thats hard to see but only noticed it recently. I don't go in the sun much. I have been sunburnt probably like 10 times in my life.

i have never sunbathed nude, only in a bikini.

It is probably a mole and benign at that. However, do not be mislead; melanomas can arise in the vagina and rectal areas in people who have NEVER had sun exposure there. I say get it examined to be safe but rest assured the likelihood is it is benign.

God bless, best wishes

Yes a 14yo can get skin cancer.
Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, with doctors finding skin cancer in about one million Americans each year.

The skin features that frequently occur in basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma are listed below. If you are concerned about a symptom or a feature on this list, please talk with your doctor.

Changes in the skin are the main warning sign for skin cancer. Each type of skin cancer can appear differently, and an accurate diagnosis by a doctor or other health-care professional is essential.

For basal cell cancer, two or more of the following features may be present:

An open sore that bleeds, oozes, or crusts, and remains open for several weeks

A reddish, raised patch or irritated area that may crust or itch, but rarely hurts

A shiny pink, red, pearly white or translucent bump

A pink growth with an elevated border and crusted central indentation

A scar-like, white, yellow, or waxy area, often with a poorly defined border
Squamous cell cancer can often crust and bleed and appears as:

A wart-like growth

A persistent, scaly red patch with irregular borders that may bleed easily

An open sore that persists for weeks

An elevated growth with a rough surface and a central depression
Early detection: Finding skin cancer early

Regular self-examinations may help find skin cancer early. Examinations should be performed in front of a full-length mirror in a brightly lit room. It helps to have another person check the scalp and back of the neck. Non-melanoma skin cancer most often begins on skin that has frequently been exposed to the sun.

A doctor should be consulted for:

Growths on the skin that match any symptoms on either of the above lists

New growth on the skin

Suspicious changes in an existing mole or spot

A sore that doesn't heal within two weeks

You can develop skin cancer in an area on the body that hasn't been exposed to the sun before also..

Answer 1: Yes
answer 2: Without a check up (and if necessary a biopsy) there is no firm way of knowing what this is .... it could just be a mark, it could just be a mole, it could be something more .... keep an eye on whether it gets bigger, changes shape, the edges are 'ragged' rather than smoother, gets deeper, gets darker ....
Answer 3: If you really are so worried about it - get checked out by a medical practitioner .... you are very young and your body is still growing and changing - marks can appear and disappear as we grow ....
Lastly - you should be taking better care of your body and your skin ... at your age you should not have experienced sunburn 'probably like 10 times in my life'.... there are products out there and advice to help prevent this happening - take notice and listen .....

Unless you sunbathe nude, then you have no concern about it being skin cancer. And yes, you can get skin cancer at your age. ALWAYS use at least 15 spf in the sun (even if you tan).

Do see your doctor though. Anything abnormal or new on, in or around your genitals needs to be seen by a doctor.

Yah. Children are more likely to get it than adults are. I don't think being sunburnt 10 times in your whole life will do that though. You would need way more sun exposure than that. It could just be a bruise or something if you just recently noticed it.

skin cancers aren't just from the sun.if its oddly shaped and lumpy and hairy might want to see a doc. if it bleeds etc see a skin doctor. it may be embarassing but could save your life. Just wait til you have to get a pap smear!

Yeah children are more likely than adults to get it but i only think you get it from getting sun burnt but unless you sun backed nude then yeah

It's a mole!
