Does a skin biopsy mean cancer?

Yesterday I went to the dermatologist for a general skin check. He did a biopsy of a mole on my thigh. The doctor said it's "nothing to worry about yet," and I haven't been . . . until I started looking online (mistake!).

I know no one can tell me for sure how it will turn out, but I'm wondering . . . have you ever had a skin biopsy, and did it turn out to be cancer (personal, I know)? Or, is there a good chance it's cancer? I really don't know what to think about this.

I'm 27, not particularly fair-skinned, and, while I'm not great about wearing sunscreen, I don't spend too much time in the sun and haven't had a burn in a long time.

Thanks!

i work for a dermatologists, and the majority of cases that are biopsied turn out to be benign. and even if it is cancer, there are types of skin cancer that are nothing to worry about. there are some forms of skin cancer that you'll die of old age before it ever kills you. so just wait for the results, and stop worrying yourself by reading the internet.

The biopsy is just to screen the skin for any cancerous cells, it does NOT mean you definitely have cancer. You most likely don't and if the mole IS cancerous they will just scoop it right off you body, it's not like having lung cancer or tumor in your brain. (Skin cancer can be serious at times but generally an outpatient procedure can remove the affected area)

No it doesnt mean its necessary cancer. It probably looked suspicious to your doctor and thats why they did a biopsy just to be on the safe side. Don't start worrying now. I say you cross that bridge when you get to it.

i dont know what your history is with spf or tanning products. there is a chance a mole could be cancer.

just be glad that if it is cancer you caught it in time... and if it isnt everything is back to normal.

take the doctors diagnosis for now. don't worry. we might tell you anything, so don't worry about what non-professionals say as a diagnosis. k?

it means they are going to analyze it to se if is cancerous, most often it isnt just benign which is ok
