Skin cancer? |
My dad went to the doctor because he had a mole that looked strange and a rash on his legs and stomach. He got a biopsy today and I am kind of worried, I was just wondering if it sounds serious. He went to the doctor about 4-6 weeks ago and had the biopsy today. If the doctor thought it was really serious wouldn't he have sent him for a biopsy right away? Skin cancer causes roughly 11,000 deaths per year. It is something to be taken seriously. It sounds like your father did the right thing by going to a physician. The fact that he was allowed to wait 4-6 weeks to get the biopsy done shows that the physician wasn't too worried about it. The best ways to reduce your likelyhood of contracting skin cancer are to wear sunscreen daily and watch for changing moles or discolorations on the skin. See your physician if something looks odd to you. I have included a link the the American Cancer Society and wikipedia links to three types of skin cancer. Source(s): http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ped/conten... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/melanoma... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/basal_cell_... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/squamous_ce... Skin cancer isnt common, so it might not be that, but my Dad had the same thing happen, he had a mole that grew some microscopic amount in 1 year; he evuentialy got it checked out and it was cancerous! the good thing it that the mole could not spread the cancer, so he just got it remooved! Most of the time is you catch the cancer early you can give youre self an extreem advantage. Jackmac :P~ |
