well I dont have a whole lot but we know that it can be caused the sun's rays. it can be hereditary but mostly it depends on your environmental circumstances.

My father passed away from melanoma. The deadliest type of skin cancer.

Other folks have give some good information about skin cancers, but watch for locally scaly scabby places that do not heal. Also lumps, bumps, and mole like growths that come up or change. Melanoma usually has an irregular shape and is dark or more than one color. Have someone check your back. Most melanomas occur on the back and the legs. Often they occur about 20 years after a severe sunburn. Mine occurred about 30 years after the severe sunburn.
