Is skin cancer genetic? It isn't genetic, but if someone in your immediate family has it then you are more predisposed to getting it, just be very careful out in the sun, cover up and use the sunscreen and never go to those tanning places that would be asking for it. If you have naturally light features like skin, hair color then you are also predisposed to getting it, just be very, very careful. I lost a loved one to Melenoma skin cancer, and take my advice and protect your self. far as i no it isnt genetic!!!!! yes Partially. Having fair skin is genetic, and if you have fair skin, the chances of skin cancer are, statistically, a lot higher. However, actual skin cancer is not genetic. There are some rare forms of skin cancer that are related to a genetic defect, but Chocoholic is correct - the major 'genetic association' is related to skin color. I don't think it is. It is your lifestyle and diet that are the root of toxins building up in your body. skin cancer is not a genetic disease. Leprosy is a genetic disease. Skin cancer is caused due to several other reasons.
