I want to tan, but am afraid of skin cancer. What product can I use? |
I have very fair skin. I am afraid of the risk for skin cancer, and I absolutely will not go in a tanning bed. If I use sunscreen, in alow SPF, will I still beable to tan safely, or is it a lost cause? Also, how much and how long does a "fake" tan last? If like you say you have very fair skin, you might be the kind who just won't tan. Some people only burn and never tan. This is knwn as skin type 1. They also tend to be blondes or redheads and freckle easily. Better stay out of the sun as much as possible. Melanomas (cancer) is increasing in recent years. 5000 new cases yearly in the UK. 1500 deaths yearly from melanoma. If you're from Australia, the chances are 4x higher. If you must, only tan in mornings or in the late afternoons. From 11 to 3, stay under a tree. 10 minutes at noon is enough to burn some people. Use enough SPF to always avoid burning because burning is really a sign of damage. One last note. If you've got lots of moles, like >100, you could be genetically predisposed to cancer so forget about tanning yourself altogether. Melanomas are only treatable in the very early stages. It just ain't worth it. L'Oreal makes great sunless tanning products. They don't make you orange or streaky. There is no safe tan. Even if you use sunscreen, anytime your skin changes color ie. tans or burns, that means that there's damage occuring to your skin. There are some great sunless tanning products out there, and there are bronzers that you can use on your face. Try this site. www.sunless.com I have been using the Oil of Olay lotions. They are the only ones I can stand the smell of. I haven't tried all of the others though. I highly recommend them. Try a lotion with self-tanner blend, especially one that builds color gradually over a week or so. No natural tan is "safe". salon bronze in the gun thing |
