Are there any charecteristics that lower or higher the atural protection one has against skin cancer?

There is a popular theory that says that the darker the skin color, (higher the melanin content), the more protection one has. If you sunburn, then use a sun screen.
yup dark skinned persons are less likely to develop skin cancer due to their high melanin content which protects them from the UV or sun's rays. Always have sunblock but if you want to have a nice tan, it is better if you just apply a self tanning lotion than sunbathing.
Stay healthy. I developed skin cancer during a very stressful time in my life. I was not eating or sleeping well, and I am sure that my immune system was compromised because of that. And, my oncologist told me EVERYONE should apply sunscreen 30 spf or higher EVERY SINGLE day! The depleting ozone layer is causing more and more skin cancer in people of all skin types, and at a much younger age than previosly discovered. I was young..36 when my malignant melanoma was discovered, but he is having cases of children getting diagnosed with it. Also, the more freckly you are, it makes your chances of getting skin cancer like 75% higher. Be careful!
