What preventative measures are being used to reduce the incidence of Skin Cancer? |
Thanks heaps ;-) Vitamin D. Vitamin C (5 to 10 grams) taken before and after helps to prevent sun burn. I've used aloe vera applied topically to turn mild burns into tans! There is some concern that the so called SPF and sun blockers might actually contribute to cancer. Here's why. Skin cancers (it might just be the deadly kind, melanoma) are much more common in northern climates. That's because in cold climates, there is naturally less skin exposure to the sun, so there's less Vitamin D made by the skin. If you use sun blockers, it blocks production of Vitamin D, which would have helped to protect us from skin cancer. Obviously, moderation is the key. Good luck and be well. Kelley PS. I recall once getting a bad sunburn as a child. My Dad took me into the bathroom and put vinegar on my back. The pain went away in a few seconds. Plus, I got to smell like a pickle! Try it the next time you get a burn bad enough where you don't care how you smell. It's an instant pain-free solution. use sunblock, use an umbrella Don't stay in the sun too long and wear suntan lotion that helps out against UV rays as well as the right type of suntan protection. Also, the worst times to be in the sun is between noon and 2pm. Ciao. Coppertone The most effective method is prevention. Suncream, hats, protective clothing etc is the most effective way of preventing skin cancer. Apply sun cream 20 minutes before exposure to the sun and reapply regularly. Also, avoid going into the sun in the hottest parts of the day (12pm-3pm) and wear sunscreen even on cloudy days as the UV rays are still present. Using a moisturizing daily that have an SPF in could help prevent skin cancer. just remeber to put it on your face to especially the ears!!! putting on Sunblock helps. Don't go tanning in tanning beds. do not put baby oil on your skin. |
