Dog food to help skin/fur/energy/general health?

So, I want good food for my new pup, to help with his coat and skin and general health. When I was a kid I knew some people who would always say dropping raw egg into the bowl once a week did wonders. But, I'm not so sure how those types of standards still hold. Any suggestions? I don't mind getting solid healthy stuff outside of the regular pet-store stuff at all.

Haha, I'm not kidding!! When I was a kid I heard this type of thing all the time!

But I am serious about some natural things to give him, Brand names are great for kibble, but I believe in some natural foods too!!

Canidae All Life Stages is a great holistic dog food...
We feed it to both of our dogs and they are very healthy, definitely energetic, and have gorgeous, shiny coats!

WELLNESS dog food is 1 of the best on the market. Science diet is not a good food....Feel free to check out the ingredients...You should never give your dog food from a dept store or food store,Its like feeding him McDonalds every day Wellness first ingredient is MEAT....science diet's first ingredient is a filler like oats or corn. I don't know many dogs that like a good ear of corn. Wellness has food with chicken or duck ,venison and fish.,and that is the first ingredient. On the bag of wellness it reads "safe for human consumption" Its just a great food for your dog. You can also add a table spoon of wet(can) and nuke it for about 12 seconds. It brings out the flavor,Just do a finger check before you give it to your dog.

Well Science Diet is not THE best thing out there, I would go for more natural brands like Natural Balance, Nature's recipe, Solid Gold,Nutro,or even Avoderm. They all eliminate foods that are common allergies to dogs like beef and cornmeal, Eukanuba is total crap, I had to take about 10 classes on the breed smart certification at work and they're our sponsors, they're also idiots.

You can give the dog an egg added into the food a couple times a week. It doesn't haver to be raw. Stay away from the supermarket foods and Science Diet. There are far better foods.
Go to your local animal supply store, not Petsmart/Petco. They will have a large selection of all natural foods that don't have fillers or chemical preservatives.
Dick Van Patten's or I feed Diamond Lamb and Rice. My Labs do great on it and have wonderful coats. Their teeth stay clean and they do not have ear problems.

If you have time to cook for your dog, the best thing is chicken, brown rice, veggies and fresh water. I do this for my dog twice a day and she's a healthy, happy beautiful pooch! This is what I was told by her vet!

Save the problem of salmonella with a hardboiled egg instead. Nowadays they have vitamins for dogs.

I really hope this is a put-on. I really do.

Eggs??!!! That's bad, I think! haha..I gave my dog Eukanuba...or Bow Wow...those dog foods are high in protein.

Real food is by far the best.

I give my dog raw eggs, this is not cruel but part of a dogs natural diet.

I dont cook for my dog, I feed raw. The way they are meant to eat. My dog has the shiniest coat ever.

I also ground up raw egg shell and add a teaspoon twice a week with the egg. Its full of calcium and other minerals.

I also give meat, rabbit, chicken and raw meaty bones. I feed raw chicken carcasses, legs and wings.

I also give organ meats.

I give some vegies. I like sprouts, green beans, kelp/seaweed, spirulina and sometimes some grated carrot or zuchinni.

I also feed sardines or local fish twice a week and give 2 fish oil caps everyday. This is amazing for their coat.

I occasionally give some fruit, just if Im having some I might give my dog a little piece.

I avoid onions, grapes, junky table scraps and all grains.

Grains are not a natural part of a dogs diet. Look at their teeth, they are not grain eaters. Im am so surprised that vets reccommend to feed this. Brown rice is great for a human, not for a dog. Thats is why many brands of kibble are coming out now that are grain free. Dogs are mainly protein eaters.

You cant go wrong feeding real food. My dog has been eating this since he was a pup. He is not missing anything in his diet. Our vet here refuses to sell brand dog food, instead she gets everybody going to the butcher.

Good Luck with your pup!

go to the pet store and get science diet it by far is the best food on the market!! I think there may be a special one for the coat. Call a veteranarian and ask. Say you want the best in nutrients but also to help the coat.

don't add raw eggs thats mean. Its unneccisarry.
