Sleeping disorder or just not getting quality sleep?

I am 42 I take several perscription medications one is for hormones 2 are for sleep and 1 for depression. I think if I was not so tired all the time I would not be depressed. I had a hysterectomy years ago but I have never felt like I have been able to get a good nights sleep. I can remember feeling so tired in the afternoon it was hard to make it home from work. Now I just seem to take a nap, is this good or bad? I fall right to sleep, I don't drink a lot of caffine, I don't eat and go to bed, I don't exercise before bed. It feels like I am thinking in my sleep so I never get to the restful sleep. I wake up many times during the night about every 3 hours or so I am not awake long but still I wake up when I first awake I am thinking about something, anything . I have gotten a cd with soft sounds to sleep to, I have started to exercise some in the morning. I eat a pretty healthy diet and I am not over weight. I am just tired......Please can someone offer something

I am very interested in your two sleep medications. If I was doing a work-up with your history this is what I would recommend. 1) increase exercise finish 1-2 hours before bed 2) relaxation activities especially progressive muscle relaxation-web site below 3) take a multivitamin a good one, it should completely dissolve in cold water in 10 min or you should not take it, waste of time. 4) drink plenty of water 60-120 oz/ day depending on activity 5) If you don't fall asleep within 30 of lying down, get up. Your body will sleep when it wants to sleep, as long as it is not affected by outside source stress, medications, and I would talk to your physician about getting off of those medications maybe try Valerian it is an herbal supplement. Some websites below, hope this helps.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to take more of an active role in improving your sleep hygiene and doing things to promote sleep. You say you don't drink a lot of caffeine - that's good.

However exercise is good. I exercise just 20-25 minutes a day after work. It's not a lot but it will help promote sleep. Listening to soft music is good. Have you tried Brainwave entrainment?
