What is a sleeping disorder called when your sleeping but are mentally awake?

I will go into a bit more detail as to exactly what I mean..

I sleep normally during the night, but in the mornings when Im up i try to go to sleep for 1 more hour, I do fall asleep but at some point, I want to wake up and I can hear everything going on around me, my dog barking, parents talking etc. and I can feel myself breathing and i can slow it down or speed it up, but i cant seem to open my eyes. its almost like a battle with myself in sleep to cut my breathing, or tell myself over and over to wake up and snap out of it. it was frightening the first few times it happened but now im used to it, but want to know if its serious or not, does this happen to others as well?

It can happen to anyone and although there might be a name for it I do not remember. You see, when you are half-awake (the way you described) your body gets virtually paralyzed. You might even hallucinate!
I always get that paralyzed thing in the morning and usually I HATE it sooo much that as soon as the thing let's me open my eyes and I can actually sit up I am very relieved! That is when I get out of bed because usually I am awake and still dreaming when it happens. I imagine that I AM getting out of bed and going through some daily activities when all of the sudden I realize I am still assleep and it happens over and over again until I finally wake up for REAL. Sometimes I want to wake up for real very badly but I keep failing but when I finally wake up for real I'm just like "my dream life seemed so much easier then this!" Sometimes I'm even disappointed in reality to the point that I am bitter but I would not dare go back to half-sleep again only to be rudely reawakened as soon as all my senses come together.

That will go away as you get older. I hate that. But, you are sleeping and dreaming. Ask people you wake you up to make sure you are awake before they leave you. They most likely will remember the experience and want to help.
