Do I have a sleeping disorder?

For as long as I can remember, I have been a "sleepy head". During my teen years, I chocked it up to the fact that all teenagers are tired. As soon as I would get home from school, i would take a very deep 2-4 hour nap. Then off to bed again a few hours later.
Now that I'm an adult, I have found that nothing has changed. I feel that I sleep well at night. I usually get somewhere between 7-8 hours of sleep a night. But I wake up like I never slept at all. On a rare occasion I have woken up gasping for air, I realize this could be Apnea. But i don't snore that badly according to my husband. If I am not engaged in something interesting, I will fall asleep at work. I do not want to go out with friends after work, b/c my number one priority is sleeping.
I am getting so frusterated. About 2 months ago, I was told by my dr to stop drinking caffeine b/c of a kidney infection. This is when I really started to notice my problem.

It sounds like you do have a problem that should be seen and diagnosed by your physician. Do not accept anything less from your physician than a willingness to persue the problem and help you.
you may have narcolepsy and you should talk to your doctor about treatment for it. You are basically describing the symptoms of it by always being tired and having a priority of sleeping. talk to your MD and get some advice/help.
first... adults need 8 hours of sleep. 7 hours are not enough.

teenagers need at least 9 hours of sleep.

You might be low in iron. Try taking vitamin and iron supplements... daily.

Also, try to do daily exercise. Believe it or not, daily exercise will invigorate you body, and make you feel more alert throughout the day.
You could very well have CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). It causes the body to be incredibly tired all the time, with individual triggers throughout your day. Even little things like the food you eat and how active you are can cause it to make you really tired. Go to your doctor and describe all of your symptoms, they are more readily finding these problems and can help you cope. It could also be that you have fibromyalgia ( a muscle/nerve disorder) it is similar, but more aligned with activity and temperatures. Please go to your doctor so you can have a healthy and meaningful life!!
