When a pregnant woman drinks/smokes - does it mean she's basically drowining or poisoning the child? As the above posters have mentioned...whatever the mother drinks and smokes is transferred to the baby. I would like to add that the baby isn't necessarily 'swimming' in alcohol, it's just that the alcohol is transferred in the bloodstream from the mother to the baby via the umbilical cord. So yes, I would say in a sense that the mother is poisoning her baby. Don't know but one thing's for certain - it's certainly not good for the baby. Everything pregnant woman eat or drink - is going to baby. I have 30 years delivering experience and I saw many times placenta of women who smoked and it was terrible (almost black) and these poor babies were "damaged". It is not good for baby if mother is smoking. Little occasional drink is OK but regular big portions are also not good for baby. Yes It's all the same body and environment for the baby in which the smoke and alcohol is in the blood stream........... |
