Smoking and periods?

I have smoked for 3 years and during those 3 years I FINALLY had normal periods (i'm not on birth control). However, my boyfriend asked me to quit smoking on a regular basis (i go to college and when I'm at school i'm fine, but when i go home to the stress for breaks and some weekends, i find myself craving a smoke and most likely having one). I was able to quit while I'm at school, but every period that I've had since I quit was over a break, when I was smoking. The last period though, was like 2 weeks late and I wasn't home so I wasn't smoking. So, thinking that smoking thins your blood, which would cause me to bleed, I had a smoke. And, when I awoke the next morning, I found I had started my period. Is this coincidence, or are they really related?

Sorry, I'm a guy married to girl who knows a little about the periods you lady live with. I am sorry that creation has given this burden to all the ladies.

Anyway, smoking can effect your period to very small extend. But you should know that there is no set standard number of days for a period.

Doctors often talk about a girl's monthly cycle 鈥?the number of days from the start of her period to the start of the next one 鈥?in terms of a 28-day cycle. But 28 is just an average figure that doctors use. Women's cycle lengths vary 鈥?some have a 24-day cycle, some have a 34-day cycle. And a girl may notice that her cycles are different lengths each month 鈥?especially for the few years after she first starts getting her period.

Here's some of the reasons of a fluctuating period:

- season (summer or winter)
- food intake
- Stress levels for that last quarter of period
- Sporting and health body
- Yes and drugs

Cheers.

You'd be surprised at what smoking can do to your body...check out the American Cancer Society's QUIT SMOKING section. It actually plays a huge part in changing cervical mucus.

well its the fist i have herd of although am not a smoker but will star this question will be back to see if anyone else has answered this.
