Putting on weight when I try to quit smoking.. help!!?


I have been a smoker for about 4 years now, I am in very good health and a normal weight, I am desperately trying to quit smoking, but every time I do I gain TONS of weight!! I am not snacking any more than usual and I don't know what it is.. I even exercise more and I still gain more weight any time I try to quit. It is so bad that my girlfriends will tease me about putting on the pounds when ever they know I am trying to quit. I've tried to quit 3 times so far all unsuccessful because of this. Eventually I just get soooo STRESSED OUT from it all that I have to smoke again.. Please help. How can I stop smoking and not gain weight?

(I have not smoked in 3 days and I have already gained 3.5lbs..)

its the bodys way of reacting to the stress. since u wont have ur fix of nicotine, it takes it from the food u eat, subconsciously sometimes u will increase the proportion sizes, snack when u arent hungry, eat junk when u know u should be eating healthy. im not sure how u can stop this, if u r stopping cold turkey, maybe try the gum or patches. if ur in australia, use the smoking quit line or what ever its called.
