Smoking while on Birth Control?

I know the birth control package says you shouldn't smoke while on the pill, But it also says it is much worse if you are over 35 and smoke over a pack a day, If I am 19 and smoke less than 5 cigarettes a day - and on birth control - how bad is that?

I'll be honest: It's not bad. (if *you* are honest about "less than 5 cigarettes a day")

Family history of blood clots or stroke or migraine headaches, I'd stop one of the two. Either way, you'd be taking a step in the right direction.

It will vary according to your family's medical history. This could increase your risk especially if your family had some case of high blood pressure and blood clothes.

I think if you have those concerns, it maybe a time to think about quiting smoking!

Its not bad ive been on birth control for 7 years and i have been smoking a half a pack for 4 years and i am 22. Its a higher risk of heart problems and blood clots if you are over 35.

Well, smoking can decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Your not at as much risk as someone who is 35, but by smoking you are still more at risk than someone your age who doesn't smoke.

Smoking in general is bad.
You take that chance anytime you light up.
Birth control pills or not.
