If you are a christian is it ok to smoke cigarettes?

I have smoked for 15 years straight and off an on for 3 years before that. I rededicated my life to the Lord and am finding it hard to quit smoking. I feel like I am letting God down. I know people who go to church and are very Godly but yet they smoke. I was raised that it is a sin but now I have people telling me that it is ok. I want to quit for God and also for myself. My lungs. Anyway I only want true spiritual people to answer this. I want to be right with God and want to live the way he wants me to live. Thank you

Some people believe that you're offending God by damaging something that he has created. I agree with this in a way, though not as strongly as some others.

However, I do believe that smoking is a vice - a temptation that you need to rid yourself of. It's that temptation that's the sinful part, so you need to wean yourself off it so that you can live a free life, the way God wants you to.

Also, there's the whole luxury thing - many people give up most luxuries in their life so that they can live a more pure life (however, not all people) and there's Lent, when you give up a luxury or two for 40 days so that you can experience how Jesus felt when he had to live with no food or water, resisting the Devil's temptations when he offered him food and water during this time.

Try your best to quit - your efforts will not go unnoticed.

If he really cared, he would have let jesus write in the bible
"Thou shan't smoke cigarettes, which shall be invented in the future."

And please, don't let something inexistent as a "god" tell you what to do and what not to. You have smart friends and stuff for that.

Just quit for yourself. That should be enough. If not, do it for the people around you. Isn't the people, the world around you, more of a god than the one described in the bible?

If you believe your body is a temple then you should not smoke. People who say it is okay are justifying their habit.
