Can smoking cigarettes cause you to spot?

I have been on birth control for a year (and I already took a pregnancy test and I am not pregnant) but for two cycles in a row now, I have had spotting instead of my period. Can smoking cause me to have spotting instead of an actual period? Or could it just be because I've been on birth control for a while now.

I know it's very unhealthy to smoke and take birth control and I am working on quitting but any help would be great. Thank you!

I'm sure it's because of the birth control---not the cigarettes. But smoking and birth control pills are a bad combination. Together they can cause strokes--especially if you are over 35. Kick the habit!
