Does smoking lower the effectiveness of birth control? |
Someone was telling me the other day that she smoked and she was on the pill so she was worried that she was going to get pregnant because of that. Doesn't lower the effectiveness. Birth control pills by themselves increase risk of blood clots and strokes. Smoking carries it's own set of problems and of course, if someone were at risk for stroke or blood clot the pill and smoking would be disastrous. Smoking is harmful to the fetus, so let's hope if she does get pregnant she quits smoking while she's carrying the baby. |
