What does smoking do to an unborn child?

i am not preg and dont plan on getting preg.
i just want to know what they MOST LIKELY (not the super worst thing ever) that'll happen if the lady smokes half a pack to a pack a day

My mom smoked with my older sister and my older sister is fine I guess, though apparently she was pretty small when she was born, and she suffers from depression now.. I don't know if that is related though.

"Smoking nearly doubles a woman's risk of having a low-birthweight baby. In 2004, 11.9 percent of babies born to smokers in the United States were of low birthweight (less than 5陆 pounds), compared to 7.2 percent of babies of nonsmokers (1). Low birthweight can result from poor growth before birth, preterm delivery or a combination of both. Smoking has long been known to slow fetal growth. Smoking also increases the risk of preterm delivery (before 37 weeks of gestation) (5). Premature and low-birthweight babies face an increased risk of serious health problems during the newborn period, chronic lifelong disabilities (such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation and learning problems), and even death.

The more a pregnant woman smokes, the greater her risk of having a low-birthweight baby. However, if a woman stops smoking even by the end of her second trimester of pregnancy, she is no more likely to have a low-birthweight baby than a woman who never smoked (6).

A recent study suggests that women who smoke anytime during the month before pregnancy to the end of the first trimester are more likely to have a baby with birth defects, particularly congenital heart defects (7). The risk of heart defects appears to increase with the number of cigarettes a woman smokes."

I don't get why you people can't get it through your stupid heads that smoking is bad for you and bad for everyone around you.

That is not a whole lot.. Women smoked for years and years before they knew that it could potentially harm their babies. It is not good because what you do, your baby has to do. But its really not that big of a deal... Dont worry

may rise the chance of the baby getting cancer ..

Oouch!!! I know it. go to link http://doctorshop.blogspot.com/?q=smokin...
