Ways to stop smoking... help please? |
I am 28 and I have been smoking since I was 16. I smoke about 1/2 to 3/4 a pack per day. I have tried the patch and I tried to quit all together and I can't. Please give me some advise on how to quit. Serious people only. Hi! It's a head thing. You really have to want to quit. I had to make a date to quit and find all the reasons it wasn't good for me, my body, people around me, and get mad at the way it controlled my life. Then, I celebrated my last night and went through all the fun feelings I had towards my "friend" the cigarette. All the years, and taste, after coffee, drinking, after love making etc. Then made sure no cigs were left in the house and had none to fall back on the next day. After I smoked the last of my pack that night, I went to bed and told myself, when I woke, I am Not a smoker. The next day, I had to keep myself busy, and brushed my teeth alot. It was not easy, but possible. It is now 6 years and I want one every day but I let myself realize how much I can hurt myself and my pocket book, (I saved alot of money) I smell better, don't cough so much, I am a singer and my voice is much better, and people don't look at me like I am the filth of the earth. (Smokers in the USA are the most prejudiced against group. We talk about a free nation, but not when it comes to smoking, people feel they can be justly nasty to a smoker.) Now I can talk to people without angry stares and condecending attitudes. Now, I look at smokers with compassion and understanding. They are usually people who have had alot of life stress or not having alot of confidence. Low self esteem usually shows itself in self distructive ways. So, I didn't succeed until I really got into what made me tick. Don't quit until you want to. Then look at it like loving yourself and caring about the part of you no one else can touch. The"YOU" part that is hurting and destructive, because of past hurts, and be gentle and try to love that part. Good luck sweet one! Go cold turkey. When you get cravings, go for a jog, eat veggies, whatever it takes. Congrats on your decision to quit. I have been smoking since i was about 13 years old and i an now 34, i wish there was an easy answer to this one..sorry i cant help you out...i would stop if i could... JUST STOP. I've had a similar problem and it's the only way. You could try homeopathy to help you with cravings and other problems associated with stopping smoking. It helped someone I know. You could either research it yourself or find a homeopathic doctor to help you. http://www.homeopathic.com/articles/intr... http://www.abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/... http://www.elixirs.com/products.cfm?cate... Don't buy them. Several years ago when I was taking Wellbutrin for depression, I noticed that I just didn't want to smoke either. Drink LOTS of water to help flush the nicotine from your body. Seriously, I'm not tring to be smart. But don't buy them. If you don't have them, you can't smoke them. And tell your friends not to let you have any. Yah, it'll suck for the first week or so. And that's where the water comes in. The faster you flush the nicotine out, the sooner you won't crave so badly anymore. Eh, that's just the way I did it. Don't say you can't. DECIDE to stop! |
