Everytime i give up smoking i get a cold......? |
Does this happen to anyone else? If i stop for a few days, i always end up getting a cold. Why is this and has this happened to you? It's not a cold. When you smoke, the little cilia (hairs) in your lungs get tamped down by the tar in the smoke. The cilia's job is to filter out what goes into your lungs--sort of like nose hairs do in your nostrils. When you quit putting the smoke in your lungs, the hairs cleanse themselves by producing mucous, which washes away the tar. This mucous causes a cough and misery, but if you can stand by for a few weeks, the cilia are cleaned and can do their job, and you will feel much better. A good herb to make the process faster is "Slippery Elm"; you can buy it at the health food store. It makes the mucous slipperier and faster to expel. I finally quit smoking after more than 20 years of trying, and someone told me this info. Good luck. It never happened before, but it did this time - spooky!! It's all the cr@p coming out of your system. It's quite common. gave up 3 years back put on 5 stone but no cold I have no idea why this happens. My mother was the same every time she tried to give up smoking she always ended up with really bad bronchitis but when she started again it would clear up. Quite extraordinary but possibly there is a logical explaination for this happening. smoke menthol cigarettes. if it's an actual cold (runny nose, sore throat, etc as well as a cough) then it's likely coincidental. if it's a productive cough then it is probably you moving all the junk out of your lungs. it will get worse before it gets better, depending on how long you've smoked you may have a lot of stuff to move. |
