My resolution is to quit smoking...any suggestions?



I have been smoking for ten years now....a pack a day, i've wanted to quit so bad for years, and i have attempted for years, i've tryed the patch, gum, doctor prescribed medicine,nothing works, I admit i like to smoke my cigarettes, i think about this constantley, I'm a smokaholic, they say its all in your head but i just can't seem to do it, any suggestions from any ex-smokers who have quit, how did you do it?...I really want to, I pray to the Lord every night to help me but I have to want to do it also but for some reason i just can't put them down, help!!!!

Throw away all of your paraphernalia (lighters, ashtrays, etc.) and quit smoking cold turkey from pack-a-day to zero cigarettes a day. I say zero because if you set any other number, then you may just say "well, why not this many? Or this many?" It's more likely a setup for failure.

Buy a billion packs of gum and pop a piece into your mouth whenever you have a craving. Keep it there until the craving has passed or flavor is gone, but chew another piece. Chew anything that makes a cig seem less appetizing.

Steer clear of routines that included smoking and feature-length movies that may have characters who smoke. They make cigarettes seem much more appetizing in movies, but maybe it's just sitting in the movie without one... who knows?

I liked that mayonnaise jar suggestion. That's pretty darn good. I'd add that you should tell everybody you're quitting. Otherwise people will think you're crazy for carrying a (hopefully) empty Mayo jar around. Then again, don't tell anybody... they'll think you're even crazier if it's full of cigarette butts, making it more embarrassing to smoke.
Ummm just stop. I dont see why its so hard.

Carry an empty glass mayonnaise jar around for 30 days. EVERY cig you smoke, the butt goes in there. A visible sign of failure.

If you get through it with an empty jar, you'll be through the worst of it.

Plus the jar will give you something to do with your hands.
The patch and some will power, it isn't easy but you know you can do it.
I quit smoking on April 7, 2005. I prayed alot, used the patch. What did it for me was smoking with the patch on !! I thought I was going to die !!

I also started telling people..I don't smoke !
Find something else to do with your hands (knitting, games)
Don't allow anyone to smoke in your home or car
Find something else to do with your lungs (exercise)
Every 15 minutes don't have one
Reward yourself with something awesome every week you don't smoke
Hang around with nonsmokers
NO patch, NO gum, ANY nicotine makes it harder
In time IT DOES GET EASIER
