Cold turkey.

Please visit http://www.whyquit.com and read about nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patch, etc.) to see why it doesn't work well.

Read a few sections of "Why do people smoke?" and "How to quit smoking." The site even tells you what to expect (accurately) during the surprisingly short physical withdrawal period and how to minimize the symptoms.

It is really quite eye opening. Source(s): Personal experience
Determination to quit the habit and help from others.
You must have the will power and the desire to quit at 100%. Along with that, you can try a smoking cessation kit or the gum; I used doc prescribed Zyban for a 2 wk period. After that haven't had a cigarette since. You see I smoked for years and it took me 2 wks to kick the habit and to this day, well it's been 5 yrs..amazing...and very proud! Good luck to you
The most successful way to quit smoking is to do it after the first one you smoke. The next best way is whatever works for you. Remember, there is no such thing as failing to quit smoking. You can always keep trying.
