Are sushi and smoked saman safe in pregnancy? Researchers dont advise that you eat sushi during pregnancy seeing its raw and bacteria builds up in the fish seeing its uncooked. Yet some others will say it is safe - as long as u know the source of where your food is coming from. Salmon is fine during pregnancy. Seafood such as shrimp and octopus are the same - your usually told to be careful with it and lastly the fish your told to avoid all together is Marlin, Shark and Swordfish. These contain mercury. If you eat too much of these it can cause abnormalities of the fetus, prem birth or stillborns. It is recommended to only eat cooked seafood - which includes some kinds of sushi rolls - during pregnancy.
