Why do doctors tell you not to smoke or drink if your on birth control.. will it decrease the effectiveness? it wont decrease the effectiveness but it will increase the risks of heart attacks and blood clots. With any kind of birth control there is the risk of blood clots but if you smoke the risk of heart attack and clots are greatly increased!! I don't know about the alcohol but smoking increases the risk of blood clots. Actually it will increase the effectiveness.. By maybe giving you a stroke and or heart attack with a blood clot and you can't get prego if your dead. smoking increases the risk of blood clots, cancer, and heart disease. and drinking alcohol makes them less effective. just read the warnings and directions on the package and the paper that tells you how to help b/c work to the full extent the labeling that birth control comes in |
