Why does the dentist tell you not to smoke when you get your tooth pulled? The smoke can cause an infection on the open sore. u can get dry socket You aren't supposed to suck on anything. That can cause the scab to get pulled loose, causing dry sockets. This includes sucking on a cigarette. I heard it was because it can cause like some sort of blood clot or something if you smoke after you have had like teeth removed or like a surgery. Awound doesn't heel so well if you smoke, and infections are easier to catch Registered Nurse not just smoking...any kind of sucking for the first couple of days creates a suction in your mouth and can hurt your mouth. also, smoke is very dirty and it can cause infection to an open wound (like having a tooth pulled) |
