Stress related acne?

For the past month or so I've had a lot of trouble with breakouts on my face. I've done everything in my power to clear and prevent said breakouts, including changing my diet, home remedies, and switching to a new face wash. Up until recently I couldn't figure out what was causing my face to break out so badly, but now I have found the culprit, stress. Currently I use the Neutrogena Wave, but I've seen that Neutrogena makes a face wash that is targeted at acne caused by stress. I haven't been using the wave long, but I like it. Although, I like the product I'm not so sure that it's best suited for my current skin condition, but i'm debating whether or not to switch to the Neutrogena acne stress control face wash. Any suggestions?

The only "cure" for cystic acne is Accutane. Any other topical or oral medication taken for acne will only control it, but not deal with the root cause.
I have had cystic acne since my teen years and tried everything on the market. It wasn't until I was 30 years old that I finally went the Accutane route and I wish I had done it years earlier. I don't break out anymore at all.

I know there is controversy concerning Accutane, but to me, if taken properly under a good doctors supervision, the benefits more than outweigh the side-effects (especially for a man who does not have to worry about the pregnancy issue)

Hope this helps.

There is a link between adult acne and stress, and research has proven this link. (In fact, acne is considered one of the main culprits when it comes to acne in adults.) This happens because, when your body is stressed, the increase in stress hormones can throw off your equilibrium and you can experience all sorts of changes, such as weight gain, increased blood pressure, and worsened acne. Experts are divided on whether stress creates acne or just worsens it, but it does increase the amount of oil your skin secretes, which can clog pores and cause breakouts.

One way to tell if acne is stress-related is to be aware of when breakouts tend to occur, and examine your stress levels from the preceeding week. If breakouts tend to match up with the times that your body is feeling stressed, there is probably a link. (If, however, you always tend to get acne on specific spots like the right side of your chin or your left cheek, that could actually be due to environmental factors like your cell phone resting on your face as you talk.)

You can practice stress management techniques to keep stress-related acne in check, and be sure to wash your face regularly as well. I also recommend exfoliating and even using a home microdermabrasion kit, which removes the top layer of skin and stimulates new, fresh skin to grow, but I'm not a dermatologist, so that recommendation is only a lay opinion.

Stress management is the obvious choice for increased health as well as clearer skin. This Stress Reliever Personality Test can help you to find stress relievers that fit best with your personality and lifestyle.

I tried Neutrogena acne stress control products and they did not work for me. But in all fairness, my acne is not stress related - it's most likely hereditary. In my experience, over the counter products help but do not cure acne. If it's bothering you, you may want to consider seeing a dermatologist to clear it up. If you don't want to see a derm or want to try more over-the-counter products first, then keep this in mind - it takes 8 weeks of using the same product to see if it's really working. Acne builds up under the skin 8 weeks before you see it on the surface and once it's under there, it's going to surface. So whatever you try, use it the same way for 8 weeks before you decide it's not working and try something new. Hope this helps!

P.S. I also recently read that benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria on the skin, but cannot unclog pores. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid have some ability to unclog pores, but not nearly as much as perscription medication.

effective way to reduce stress is to do regular deep breathing exercises. Simply take a deep breath in and then out without straining yourself in any way.
