What can officers do to relieve this stress and keep their body and mind healthy?


Police Officers are constantly exposed to stress on the job. What can officers do to relieve this stress and keep their body and mind healthy?

Everyday we always encountered stress, in our workplace, in our home, in some activities and other events... you're stressed and don't know what to do... Remember, "It's just a (insert noun here) and it's not on fire." This mantra works in many scenarios, and a lot of my friends are saying it's working for them too.

There are lots of ways to reduce stress:

One of the best ways is to practice a 15 minute relaxation technique; such as deep breathing, visualization, meditation, or hypnosis. If you do this daily it WILL reduce your stress. It is impossible to feel relaxation and stress at the same time. This is absolutely the best way to reduce your stress.

In addition ... exercise will help you a lot. Practice some cardio exercise for at least 20 minutes 3 times a week at minimum. If you're not doing it now, start small and work yourself up to more over time.

Eating a healthy diet, staying away from too much sugar.

Getting plenty of sleep.

Thinking about positive things that you WANT, rather than those things that you don't want. I'm sure in your field you see plenty of negatives, so you especially need to create more positive images and thoughts in your mind.

Give yourself permission to have some fun with friends and family.

Drink lots of water. This will give you energy over time, and reduce tension in your body.

Get a massage.

Any of these will ultimately help you to get where you want to be if you are consistent with your practice.
