Can anyone help Please! My husband is dealing with post traumatic stress disorder?

My husband is getting help but has asked for some time off from national guard to take care of himself. His Sgt and others are giving him grieve from asking for time off. They are making things more difficult for our family and it is not helping his PTSD. He has served his time in iraq and has been in the military for 9 years he just asking for some time off till he can get a little better for himself, our family and financialy. Who can he contact so that he can speak to someone that will give him this time off what does he have to do. Should i call his Doctor for help?

I'm sorry to hear about your husband! I would def. call his doctor because the doctor may recommend medical leave, however, the military still does not believe in PTSD. It is extremely hard for them to take anyone serious about it, good luck because I think you may need it.

First, try talking to the chaplain from the National Guard. If that fails, talk to his doctor. And good luck.

I suffer from this thanks to the god-awful drug Versed...I'm doing EMDR therapy now and it seems to be helping, although it is VERY painful to bring back these memories...

Yes, you should call his docyor immediately.

There is such a thing as the Family Medical Leave Act, but I don't know if that works for the military--I sort of thought it was a federal act. There is growing concern for the hassle some soldiers are getting when they have the guts to say they have this disorder and try to get it treated. Would an attorney who is versed in this area be helpful? I heard about a kid who had this disorder and actually shot himself in the leg because he was so terrified to go back, he was charged with a misdemeanor or something. I think he was on a national news show--was it good morning america--try looking it up and see what your recourses are and what he finally did to get some action regarding his ptsd
