What are some problems or reactions to a chemical stress test?

I am unable to take a stress test on the treadmill. I have lung and asthma problems. What reactions should I expect from the chemical stress test?

First, I had a quadruple by-pass and also contracted copd, which for some reason did not show up until fur months after the by pass surgery.
It was almost a year after the surgery when I was admitted for extreme breathing problems, and to eliminate the heart as possible problem with breathing, I also went through the chemical stress test.
This was a total surprise as there was no discomfort and no after effects, none. The only thing I was advised that in the event I was to travel by air for a few days after the test, I would have to carry a card stating I had indeed had the chemical test, due to some sort of radio active material injected into my system.
Don't worry, it's a piece of cake, and oh yes, they try to feed you cookies and milk after the test, milk? yuk !
For the test itself, you just lay on a table while they inject some stuff, wait about 1/2 hour, then they lay you on another machine similar to an open cat scan for about ten minutes,,and you're done.

The doctor probably thinks that an angiogram is not necessary at this stage. If the chemical stress test picks up something, the doctor might then go for it. Although an angiogram is considered safe, there is a 0.5% chance that something might go wrong. A friend of mine died immediately after an angiogram.
I had a chemical stress test recently. My chest and head got really hot, and I nearly panicked. But this feeling faded away quickly, and I was glad that I did not ask the doctor to abort the test.

For most people, the biggest complaint is pure discomfort. You are lying there motionless, the adenosine kicks in and your heart is racing away like you're trying up a flight of stairs - very scary to some patients but trust your physicians, they know what they're doing and you'll get through it just fine.

You have nothing to worry about with your asthma.

PS: You might also want to ask your doctor about an angiogram. Stress tests are limited, speculation based on which muscles light up on a screen... an angiogram tells the complete story without any guesswork.
