What are some problems or reactions to a chemical stress test? |
I am unable to take a stress test on the treadmill. I have lung and asthma problems. What reactions should I expect from the chemical stress test? First, I had a quadruple by-pass and also contracted copd, which for some reason did not show up until fur months after the by pass surgery. The doctor probably thinks that an angiogram is not necessary at this stage. If the chemical stress test picks up something, the doctor might then go for it. Although an angiogram is considered safe, there is a 0.5% chance that something might go wrong. A friend of mine died immediately after an angiogram. For most people, the biggest complaint is pure discomfort. You are lying there motionless, the adenosine kicks in and your heart is racing away like you're trying up a flight of stairs - very scary to some patients but trust your physicians, they know what they're doing and you'll get through it just fine. |
