Nuclear stress test using Adenosine?

After having the nuclear stress test for my heart yesterday. The dr called today with only part of the results. On the EKG during the Adenosine test there was enough of a change to be seen by a Cardiologist. But then he said it may be nothing. He does not have the pictures from the heart at rest or after the Adenosine test. He will not have them for a day or two yet. He is having me see a Cardiologist based on the EKG only. IS this normal?

I was in the hospital three weeks ago because of a fast heart beat, pain in arm and neck and major heart burn and the thyroid test was way out of whack. The EKG then came out normal but they wanted to keep me anyway. Was on a monitor all night and the next day. Then for 48 hrs after that I had to wear a Holter monitor. Only a very few slight changes were found. Even though I kept a record of when I had the problems most of them did not even show up. Is this also normal?

I know these are questions for my Doctor and Cardiologist. But has anyone else's doctor made an appointment with the cardiologist you with out all the results being in? Especially when the dr said it was not definate either way? Kind of scarry, since I have a very strong family history of heart disease in my fathers side of the family.

However I was glad the nuclear technition was a very big help in explaining everything to me then the dr was. He made sure every thing was ok with me before returning down to the truck to set up my other tests. I really am glad someone was looking out for me because I felt the dr sure wasn't. If you have had the nuclear stress test you know exactly what it feels like.

If anyone has answers to these questions I would like to hear them.

Nuclear stress test using Adenosine is used to detect myocardial ischemia.

In a pharmacological stress test, the bulk of the information is going to come from the nuclear imaging. However, EKG changes alone could be significant enough to warrant a cardiology consult. Your doctor could be playing it safe based on your personal history as well as your "strong family history."

Most often, holters are done in an attempt of catching something that may or may not be heart related.
