I am 35 yr old woman diabetic,bp has been 165/110 and im under stress-id rather try natural than bpmeds,??????

alot of stress-my dr wants me to take norvasc-I would rather try natural pills and quit smoking-what do I do?????????

A blood pressure reading of 165/110 is high and needs to be brought down before it does permanent damage to your kidneys and other organs.

Natural supplements may or may not do the trick but it would be time consuming and will take time.

What I would do is start with the medication to get it lower and then use the natural supplements to help maintain it.

If you could reduce the stress in your life and quit smoking, that would be a great benefit in lowering your blood pressure.

Good luck

Your blood pressure and the fact that you are a diabetic are what is alarming here.
As you probley know, diabetics develop problems with their kidneys, vascular, and nervous systems. Your elevated BP is only going to accelerate the development of these problems. How fast this will occur is any ones guess.
What your number one priority should be here is a three fold approach to your health care.

First - Start taking the medication for the BP. Talk to your doctor more about a class of medication for BP called "ACE Inhibitors." Getting the BP under control is the most important part. Natural versus Pharmaceutical is something you can address after the BP is in control.

Second - Start exercising. I'm not talking hours in a gym a day. I'm talking about walking for ten minutes a day then building up to forty minutes or longer over time. The exercise will help you control your glucose levels. It will also help you control your stress and BP issues. If your exercise is intense and regular enough, it could help you get off of the BP meds altogether.

Third - If you quit smoking, you will help yourself even more. But, trying to do it with the new medication and exercise routine will only add to your stress. Do one and two then start on the quit smoking thing.

Thing is, start now and make a life style type change.

For starters, quit smoking. That will help lower your overall BP. But since it is so high, it would be wise to start on BP meds ASAP - only because of what high blood pressure is called - "The Silent Killer". You can have a stroke, or heart attack at any given time with no warning at all, and that may very well be the end of you.

Get your BP under control NOW, quit smoking, and speak to a nutritionist about the foods you should or should not eat. Your diet will probably have to change in order to take your diabetes and high blood pressure into account.

Also - what is causing stress in your life? Reducing or even removing the stress triggers from your day-to-day life will also be very helpful. Don't stress out over little things. If you must get stressed out, make sure it's over the things that matter.

Good luck.

Forget it!

Your BP iws WAY too high. You are a potential stroke victim -- an accident lookiing for a place to happen.

Get to the doctor, get those meds, and get that pressure down NOW -- while you've still got blood pressure to get down.

No joke -- you could be dead at any moment.

The diabetes makes the problem worse. Diabetes damages the small blood vessesl (capillaries) that connect the arteries and veins. With small clots and scar tissue blocking the capillaries, your BP shoots up.

ONLY proper meds are going to save your life at this point.

Don't put your family through the agony of watching you die an invalid victim of stroke, Norvasc is an excellent choice , in your case.

wow, your Blood Pressure is way too high,
you definitely need to see
a doctor as soon as possible,
before further damage is done to your body.
smoking however is not something that's easy to stop doing
but you might really need to pray hard for help to stop smoking.
you can do it. if you really try.i know i've been there.
